Nice Is But Only If

Nice, Only If

Nice is as nice does,

If goodness is all-abuzz.

Kindness must be bright clear,

And sure as crystal glass.

Yet I lied, blamed and incited hate,

Spread terror, fear and dread as bait.

Watched and snickered when others berate,

You now weak beneath the weight.

I protected my pride at your expense,

Abused at will by great pretense.

Then you uttered thoughts from deep within,

A true brother and loyal friend I have been.

No!

Never did I lighten the load or share.

Nor spare, nor care, nor dare!

To stand by or take you at the hand,

Pray, please understand.

I do not know what it means to stand,

Or what is needed to form a band.

Cuz when they rebuked me firsthand,

In tears and alone did I withstand.

Nice is as nice does,

If goodness is all-abuzz.

Kindness must be bright clear,

And sure as crystal glass.
